Do You Need a Career Coach for Job Search and Interview Prep?
I partner with top-notch coaches who provide career assessments, job search coaching, interview coaching, and mock interviews.
If you’re looking for a job, the first thing you need to understand is that logging onto the job boards every day and clicking “apply” is NOT a job search strategy. Instead, you must have a multi-channel strategy that empowers you to tap into the “hidden job market” and find out about opportunities that will never get advertised—because you’ll be hired before the company needs to advertise an opening.
Virtually all of my clients receive a program called TheHireRoad that teaches a strategy for tapping into the hidden job market, among other topics. While this is an excellent resource, I find that many of my clients need help developing and implementing a customized job search strategy.
That’s where job search coaching comes in. I partner with dedicated, credentialed career coaches (including the creator of TheHireRoad) who can provide you with job search coaching to help you develop a customized plan for your job campaign and then support and guide you as you implement it.
Remember, having an excellent resume is a huge asset in your job search, but submitting a resume in response to advertised openings is one of the least effective job search strategies. That’s not to say that the resume and the process of developing the resume isn’t important. Having a strong resume is invaluable; if your job search is on the right track, you’ll be asked for a resume at some point, and it must be impressive.
Also, the process we go through to develop the resume is, in my opinion, even more important than the document itself; we work to identify your personal brand and specific accomplishments that will set you apart from the competition. You will need these for your networking efforts, interviews, bio, and social media profiles; you won’t succeed without the right key messages.
I compare a resume to a pair of premium hiking boots. Yes, good hiking boots are essential if you’ll be trekking through the Swiss Alps. But are you going to go trekking through the Alps without a map, compass, GPS, or guide? You’d end up getting lost and freezing to death! At a minimum, you need a route and a way to stay on track; ideally, you should have an expert guiding you. Same thing in your job search.
Wouldn’t it be nice to have an expert guiding you? The career coaches I partner with offer job search coaching, career assessments (for those who need to find clarity when changing careers), interview coaching, and mock interviews. These seasoned professionals have credentials that include: two decades of HR experience with extensive hiring experience; a master’s degree in career development; 15+ years of sales and marketing experience; and certification as a career coach. They have helped countless job seekers succeed, and they would love to help you, too!
Not everyone necessarily needs a job search coach, but if you’re not getting the results you deserve in your job search, please let me know. I can introduce you to one of my coaching partners for a complimentary initial consultation.
